Crushing defeat of Islamists in Algerian elections

Crushing defeat of Islamists in Algerian elections

The latest legislatives that took place on Thursday didn’t live up to the Algerian people’s expectations since the parties in power FLN and RND took the absolute majority in the next parliament with a landslide victory.

  • The results announced yesterday by the interior minister Dahou Oueld Kablia have surprised more than one including the parties in power that didn’t expect even in their most optimistic forecasts that the National Liberation Front would get 220 seats and the National Democratic Rally 63 seats.

  • Even if the National Democratic Rally has lost ground to its “rival” the National Liberation Front, the biggest blow was inside the Islamic ranks that disappointed their militants with 48 seats only the three parties included

  • Nobody expected such a crushing defeat for an alliance that comprised three parties adding another disillusion because the total seats won by the Islamic parties in race didn’t exceed 59 including those won by the Justice and Development Front party led by Abdellah Djabellah and the Front for change led by the former minister Abdelmadjid Menacera.

  • The so called democratic parties didn’t derogate to the exception and kept a symbolic representation with 37 seats 23 for the Front of Socialist Forces ( FFS) and the remaining seats for the Labor party.

  • Experts consider that Algeria has lost a real opportunity to make the change with these results following the example of various Arab countries as if Algeria was living in an island cut off from the rest of the world.
