Denmark reopens its embassy in Afghanistan, keeps its staff in Algeria in “secrete location”

Danish authorities are going to reopen their embassy in Afghanistan while they keep their diplomatic representation's headquarters closed in Algeria. The two embassies have been closed since last April following presumed terrorist threats on their workers over blasphemous cartoons of the Prophet Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him).

Danish foreign affairs minister Stig Moeller  Tuesday said the employees of his country’s embassy in Algeria will continue their tasks using telephone and correspondences in a safe and secret place”. He refused to give explications about that decision or the place of Danmark’s diplomatic representation in Algeria for “security” reasons.

According to him, no way to make a comparison between the security situation in Algeria and Afghanistan where there is a civil war and foreign forces mainly the NATO forces. Kabul witnesses strong return of Taliban movement with acts of quality. That reflects the seriousness of the security situation, according to Americans themselves.

Observers believe that the reopening of the Danish embassy in Afghanistan is no more than a western strategy to cover the deteriorated security situation in the region in the last few months. Copenhagen’s authorities closed their embassies  in Algiers and Kabul after the Danish intelligence had issued a report  warning against increasing terror threats following the reprint in Danish newspapers of blasphemous caricatures of  the Prophet Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him) in the last 10th of April.
