Diplomatic source: Algeria did not get any privileges in Mediterranean Union project
Diplomatic sources told Echorouk that Algeria still has serious reservations on the Mediterranean Union project due to Algeria's strategic role in the success of the project. Lack of privileges after giving Morocco the General secretariat and headquarters to Tunisia in addition to the idea primacy to Egypt and France are also behind those reservations.

The same sources added that Algeria is waiting for clarification during discussions due to begin on July 13 before moving to Paris summit on the same date. It will deal with the announcement of the Mediterranean Union project.

“Algeria has not got any privileges until now,” the same sources told Echorouk.

Previously, well-informed sources told Echorouk that Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will boycott this summit where many presidents will be present side by side with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Fare from issues to be handled during the Mediterranean summit, Algeria has not obtained any privileges yet within the same project. Roles have been shared after prepared proposals, which would weaken Algeria’s position in the summit.
