Earthquake kills one in western Algeria, inconsistencies about wounded number

A man was killed in an earthquake that rocked Oran Friday at around 9: 02 PM, the Civil Protection Department said Saturday in a statement.

Civil protection officers said that H.A, 38, died after rocks had fallen while he was fishing with his friends in a region called “Jawalik Wahran.”

The statement did not mention whether the Civil Protection authorities recovered the body of the young man or he is still under rocks.

Additionally, the official toll of wounded is 12 injured, the most serious case is a girl suffering from numerous fractures in various parts of her body because of the walls collapse in her house. She is still under medical care.

Some unofficial sources registered 30 wounded, noticing that Friday’s earthquake was at 5.5 on the Richter scale-according to the researches centre of astronomy, astrophysics, and geophysics.
