Earthquakes threaten 10 cities in Algeria

Centre of Research on Seismology, astronomy and Geophysics classified the northern cities in the map of sites that are threatened with earthquake, as ten wilayas were ranked in the ten list of the very dangerous and most exposed to violent earthquakes, which can repeat Boumerdes, eastern Algiers, catastrophe of 2003.

On the other hand, number of earthquakes that were recorded in the last 13 years reach 8000, the equivalent of three earthquakes every day and 100 earthquakes monthly, while experts confirm that the sea level is raising continuously.  
General Manager of the Centre of Research on Seismology,  astronomy and Geophysics, Abdelkrim Yelles confirmed on Tuesday, that the number  of earthquakes in the north Coastal region, which extends to the north of the desert, proves that this area is exposed to earthquakes, like Boumerdes, Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Medea, Setif, Chlef, Bouira and Tipaza, which are described as very dangerous because they are subject to seismic activity.
On the sidelines of the International forum on earthquakes in the Mediterranean from the past to the present, that was organised at the civil protection building in Dar Bida, Algiers, on the occasion of the tenth memory of Boumerdes earthquake, Abdelkrim Yelles said; “Algeria noticed two earthquakes                     
To three every day, and 70 to 100 earthquakes every month since more than 80 million years.
