Echorouk in the crime site after 12h: Details of the terrorist attack east of Algeria
General Ahmed Boustila, Commander of the national gendarmerie, moved last Thursday morning to Bordj Bouariridj, west of Algeria, after few hours of the terrorist attack which targeted the gendarmerie convoy in the region leaving 24 victims including dead and wounded civilians.

The commander of gendarmerie, who moved to Bordj Bouariridj immediately after he returned from Oran and Sidi Belabbes, west of Algeria, on Wednesday following his supervision of the graduation of a batch of the judicial policemen from the school of non-commissioned officers in Sidi Belabbes, then attended a working session at the second region of the gendarmerie in Oran, accompanied by officers from the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Evidence in Bouchaoui, Algiers in order to investigate on the terrorist attack based on samples and effects which were found in the scene.

Seven gendarmes from Khenchla, Batna, Ettaref, Guelma, Skikda, Jijel and Souk Ahras, east of Algeria, were buried Friday evening, in the presence of many citizens who expressed their condemnation of this massacre which targeted young Algerians. A citizen, son-in-low of the commander of the regional gendarmerie in Bir Elater, Tebessa, east of Algeria, died during the explosion of a roadside bomb trying to help citizens who were injured, as well as a gendarme from Ben Sekrane, in Tlemcen, west of Algeria, whose father was against his recruitment in the gendarmerie because his family is rich and he don’t need to work outside his region but he told his father that his dream was to become a gendarme.

Terrorists moved on board of a truck and pursued the gendarmerie convoy

Few days ago works were continuing to finish the project of the century. It was difficult to reach El Ksire region because there were a number of gendarmes deployed along with soldiers. There was a helicopter flying in the sky where a large the clean-up operation, led by the regional commander. It was impossible to reach the crime scene at about 1 km, the region seems isolated, but we were able to see effects of the fire which broke out of the gendarmerie cars.

It was 7:45 pm, when six gendarmerie cars, belonging to the intervention group of the regional gendarmerie of Bordj Bouariridj, came back from the Chinese-Algerian company in charge of completing the East-West road, where gendarmes escorted the foreign workers to and from the headquarters in Hamam Elbibane, near the petrol station everyday and at the same time. Upon their return, there was another truck behind the gendarmerie car, and everything seemed normal, because the national road n°5 towards Algiers and Bouira, noticed a daily movement of heavy trucks.

When the convoy arrived near a dangerous slope near a forest in Al Kseur, 1 km from the headquarters of the national gendarmerie, situated in the eastern outlet of Al Mansoura, between Ain Defla and Mensoura, the truck drove the gendarmerie car that’s why it stopped and about 30 terrorists, who were hiding inside the container, shot the gendarmes using FMPK and RPG weapons, setting fire in three gendarmerie cars and 12 victims died first.

The gendarmes who were on board of their cars, intervened and clashes lasted more than an hour with the terrorists, and then citizens escaped in different directions.

Survivors said; “Terrorists were wearing Afghan cloths, some of them have beards, and they were not shouting their usual words “Allah Akbar” they were repeating “Al Qaeda…Al Qaeda”, same words used by the terrorists during the assassination of 5 gendarmes on board of their cars in Medea, west of Algiers, last month.

Terrorists were shooting randomly, wounding 14 citizens in different parts of their bodies, most of them were passing on board of their cars during the clashes. They were transferred to the hospital of Bordj Bouariridj, which closed its doors in the face of journalists preventing them from entering, and families of the victims found difficulties to see their relatives.

Terrorists also have stolen 21 weapons of the gendarmes type Kalashnikov and pistols, as well as their cloths, anti-bullets vests and 6 talky walkies, before escaping taking civilians’ cars towards the neighbouring forests.

Some citizens, who have witnessed the terrorist attack, said the terrorists stopped a half truck and shot the driver, who died a few minutes later, then closed the road to block arrival of the security forces from the military barrack in the region.

Terrorist took the citizens’ cars to transfer their dead and wounded fellows

Soldiers found the body of a terrorist, killed by one of the victims. Identical witnesses said they saw terrorists carrying their fellows, who were injured or have been eliminated, which explains that they took the cars to transfer them. A military source, close to the large clean-up operation by the security forces said stains of blood in the scene; refer to eloquent injuries in the ranks of the terrorists.

Citizens donated blood to save the victims

A guard in Bordj Bouariridj hospital said Thursday morning; “A large number of citizens came to the hospital in order to help their brothers and donated blood for the victims. They were just chocked like us.

Another guard said; “Our region did not notice a terrorist attack since the beginning of the security crisis in Algeria. What happened is a catastrophe, because they are all Algeria’s sons and there is no difference between gendarmes and policemen, soldier and civilian. In each Algerian family there is a man who was recruited in the security services”.

A youngster working in the petrol station insisted on donating blood for the wounded. He said; “It’s my duty like any other Algeria citizen and Muslim”.
