The sweeping campaign of dismissals and transfers targeting several senior executives of the National Education sector undertaken recently by the Education Minister Abdellatif Baba Ahmed has sown a wave of “pandemonium” and uncertainty among large segments of the Education personnel with on focus those who had been in office for about 19 years during the lengthy era of former National Education Minister Aboubakr Ben Bouzid.

Observers wonder what’s really happening in the Ministry’s house in the light of these sweeping changes which affected several levels of the personnel’s hierarchy but mostly aimed at the so-called “Old Guard” who held sway during the Benbouzid era.

Mr Abdellatif Baba Ahmed, intent on discarding this embarrassing “Old Guard”, carried out in less than four months manifold changes at the top of the education pyramid but this only brought confusion and displeasure among the ministry’s personnel.

One of the appointees didn’t stay in office more than three days before being replaced by another senior executive who didn’t hang fire himself later on.

This “hubbub” brought about by these sweeping dismissals and transfers which also affected a host of provincial education directors, has prompted certain disgruntled and disillusioned executives within the ministry to fuel a wave of rumours about Baba Ahmed’s intention to resign from his post as Education Minister because of the simmering conflicts now besetting the Ministry, reliable sources told Echorouk.
