Egypt lawyers refuse to apologise for burning Algeria flag
Though Algeria’s lawyers insisted on Egyptian lawyers’ union to apologise for burning the national flag, they expressed their intention to forget the past and have a fresh start without giving an official apology to Algeria.

In a meeting held by the Arab Lawyers’ Union in Beirut, the Egyptian lawyers’ union said the conflict between Algeria and Egypt was settled.

On the other hand, Rezki Ablaoui told Echorouk the Algerian delegation did not boycott the presentation of the Egyptian lawyers’ leader Hamdi Khalifa as it respected Lebanon. “Lebanese President Michel Suleiman attended the meeting.”

“The Egyptian lawyers’ leader tried to mend fences but the Algerian delegation is still insisting on the necessity of apology. This did not happen and the commission in charge of investigation is still working,” he added.

He denied allegations that a reconciliation séance would be held with the Egyptian lawyers in response to some news reports about the Algerian burnt flag.

Secretary assistant of the Arab Lawyers’ Union told Echorouk burning the flag of any country is unacceptable and the flag is a national symbol to be respected.

The meeting was ended by a request to continue investigating in the issue while the Algerian lawyers will continue boycotting their Egyptian counterparts who insulted Algeria’s national symbol.
