Egyptian Coup Supporters look for Algeria's support
Algiers and Cairo have agreed on an official visit by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Nabil Fahmy to Algeria, on the fifth of January, at a time the Egyptian scene is noticing an escalation between defenders of the legitimacy of the coup supporters, after the Government of Hazem El-Beblawi, announed that the Muslim Brotherhood is a “terrorist organization.”
Nacer Kamal, Assistant of the Egyptian Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, said in a statement to the press after his meeting with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, said his visit to Algeria comes within the framework of preparation for the visit by Minister Nabil Fahmy, which is scheduled on the fifth of next month, which signs that the Egyptian side is keen to co-opt the Algerian side, to go out of the international isolation that it suffered since last summer.
Egyptian official gave his visit a security dimension through his statements, which means that Cairo is looking for Algeria’s support in its efforts to get out of the crisis due to the coup that overthrew the first elected president in the history of Egypt, which was expressed by Assistant to the Egyptian Foreign Minister, saying that “System of Arab National Security can only be organized by dialogue and enhancing the coordination between Algeria and Egypt.”
Egyptian courtship to Algeria becomes clearer when Nasser Kamal said Egypt and Algeria “are the main center countries in the Arab world and in Africa”, which is a conviction that can be issued only for an Egyptian system that becomes like a person in crisis who hoped to escape from drowning and uphold any straw to survive.
Official sources in the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Cairo will begin in reporting the Arab States about the decision to consider the Muslim Brotherhood a “terrorist organization”, so that they can claim bringing the leaders of this group before justice, in an attempt to pressure members of this organization in order to minimize their influence on the failure of elections’ regulation on amending the constitution, which is expected in the first half of January.
“We are not terrorists, you… Foreign Minister of the coup”
Perspectives of leaders of Islamic parties in Algeria varied about the statements of the Egyptian ambassador, which confirmed Algeria’s reception of the Foreign Minister in the actual government of the coup, Nabil Fahmy, on 5 January, at a time some others went to blame Algeria on its non-compliance of the resolution of the African Union, which refused to recognize any government which arose from the coup, including the Egyptian.
Djabellah: “The regime supports the coup and we are not interested in prosecutions of Brotherhood”
Leader of the Front for Justice and Development , Abdallah Djabellah, told Echorouk, that the visit is simple, refusing to link Algeria’s recognition of the coup government in Egypt, because “Algerian position before the visit recognized the coup”.
Dajabellah advised the Algerian authorities to take advantage of the visit to send messages to their Egyptian counterparts, because it “experimented the security policy, and then experimented the policy of reconciliation which is the most important card, that is its proud”, and they shall guide the Egyptian regime to work on the development of a “genuine reconciliation”, among the brothers of the nation, and develop the plan to handle security, especially with the “owners of legality and legitimacy”.
“I condemn the security rating of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. That would not affect my party, because as one of the victims of the so-called international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood said if a list to keep track of those involved in the organization is planned, this is not my concern”.
Menasra: “We do not sympathize with terrorists; Algeria should transmit its experience to Egypt”
Leader of the Front for Change, Abdelmadjid Menasra, rejected the attempts to drag their names as supporters of “terrorists”, after the Egyptian regime described the he Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
“My party has no link with the Muslim Brotherhood, as they also know the real and unreal terrorist. We refuse to deal with terrorists. Algeria recognized the Egyptian regime depending on the recognition by the Arab League, what makes them a Brotherhood. We do not protest against the reception of the Egyptian Foreign Minister in Algeria. The Algerian government is able to provide experience to the Egyptian side. Algerian regime cannot accept the marketing of the Egyptian diplomatic attempts for its treatment of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorists”.
Salem al-Sharif: “It is ironic that we are accused of terrorism”
For his part, Nasreddin Salem Sharif, said Algeria should not received the Egyptian Foreign Minister in the government of the coup, Nabil Fahmy.
“Algerian authorities and all countries signed the Charter of the African Union to refuse coups, and did not recognize the legitimacy of the regulations that are emanating from it. Egyptian regime is illegitimate, and any decision it puts has no value. Algeria was and is still the Castle of Liberals and people who search for freedom, and therefore it rejects the resolution. Attempts to keep track of the Muslim Brotherhood in all countries, including Algeria as terrorists are funny and ironic”.
