French singer with Algerian origins, Enrico Macias, took advantage of the visit of French President, Francois Holland, to Algeria after less than a month, to re-raise the issue of his visit to his hometown eastern Algeria (Constantine), after 51 years of his absence, hoping to settle the file with the Algerian authorities.
French singer did not accept the decision which prevented him from visiting Algeria, despite his many and various attempts; “I will not close the door, if a glimmer of hope to visit the country is looming in front of me”.
AFP quoted Macias as saying; “I am hurt because I’m not able to visit my hometown, however, I will not close the door despite my age, which will be next month 74. I think that the Algerian people, who could not see me for years, shared this feeling with me. I hope the situation will change someday”.
The French singer added that he was a symbol of exile, and hoped that he will become an symbol of reconciliation between all the sons of Algeria, pieds noirs, harkis and the Algerian people”, a dream that remains elusive, at least for the present time, given the accumulated hatred, which is fed from time to time by those who are still dreaming, on the other side of the Mediterranean, of a French Algeria.
Enrico, who still dreamed of visiting his hometown, did not provide what was expected from him, in order to achieve his aspirations, which is the recognition of the mistakes, which he committed against the country that embraced and hugged his ancestors, when they have fled there, and even claimed by announcing his support alongside thr Israeli enemy that robbed the land of the Palestinians unjustly, just like what France did against Algeria, as he renewed his defense of the Zionists in Palestine, when he said: “I always defend my people (Israel). these are my brothers,” while he tried to throw dust in the eyes, when he talks about his support for the establishment of a state for the Palestinians.
Holland is aware that the Algerians have a lot of sympathy towards the Palestinians for the justice of their cause, however, they did not take into account the feeling of the people, which he hopes to forgive him, in order to visit his hometown.
It is not the first time in which the French singer wanted to visit his hometown, and perhaps everyone knows that these attempts began in 1999, as he tried to embarrass President Bouteflika during his first visit to France, but he did not succeed, in light of the popular campaign that started from Constantine refusing to receive him, pushing him to step up his criticism against the Algerian authorities, especially when he said that Algeria is rich in oil and gas, however people remain poor.
