Environmental risks make Africa poorer: Bouteflika

Environmental risks make Africa poorer: Bouteflika
Bouteflika

Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika speaks about environment risks in the 12th summit of “Francophonie” in Quebec.

  • President Bouteflika says; “Protecting our environment has become a major concern in this century. People contribute in destructing Nature through over-cutting forests, producing all kinds of pollution and exploiting resources which leads to the extinction of many species. All these acts threaten the balance of our planet”.
  • “The millennium assessment of ecological systems, announced in 2005, expected that growing demography will have negative consequences on environment. In this context, developing countries will suffer more than other countries from the risks of climate change” he adds.
  • “Forums and seminars, held recently, on ecosystems deterioration contributed in the global awareness but, they have not brought yet positive reactions. Strategic, economic and financial risks are obstacles to the implementation of resolutions and recommendations adopted to protect the environment” he explains.
  • African countries are the weakest in the world facing up with environment deterioration; however they are not responsible for that.
  • They are subjected to natural disasters from time to time. This hinders their development. It also increases the spread of endemic diseases and makes Africa poorer and poorer.
