Exclusive: “Bouguerra is talented player and we did not think about Mboulhi,” says Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Algeria’s Madjid Bouguerra is a talented player. “Your defender has a promising future,” he told Echorouk in an interview.

• This Wednesday, there will be the crucial Champions League encounter with Manchester United. How do you feel about this match?

• It is a normal match like the other ones. Manchester United have an opportunity but opportunities to qualify to the next round. Their chances are not limited in Wednesday’s game. They top the group with three-point difference and did not loose any match.

• In the first leg match, Algerian defender Madjid Bouguerra was brilliant and stopped Rooney. Did that draw your attention?

• We did not manage the first leg match well. Rangers knew how to paralyse our strikers’ movement. Your defender has a promising future.

• I think that he deserves his place in the English league. Scotish league’s playing way is not different from ours.

• There is an Algerian goalkeeper who was close to you. His name is Mboulhi. Why did you change your mind about him?

• Our goalkeeper is Edwin Van der Sar and we have not decided yet about who would succeed him.

• How did you find the Algerian team in the World Cup?

• You did an acceptable job and you have good players. Maybe the lack of experience affected you.

• In the match Algeria vs England, were the Algerian players better than the three lions?

• Not so much. Don’t forget that all the players played a large number of matches with their clubs. They played many competitions and they arrived to the World Cup tired. Because of that, we don’t blame Capello.

• Rooney warned of leaving the club and you convinced him in staying?

• In Manchester, any incompetent element has to go but it is better that Rooney stay with us.
