FAF lawyer to Echorouk: “Reconciliation will not alter FIFA regulations but might soften sanctions against Egypt”

The lawyer of the Algerian Football Federation, Rachid Bouabdallah, has declared that the reconciliation attempt initiated by certain quarters between the Algerian and Egyptian Football Federations will have no impact at all on the FIFA decisions and will change in no way the nature of the projected sanctions against the Egyptian side. 

• The FAF lawyer told Echorouk that the Egyptians’ objective was to get from FIFA the smallest sanctions possible or to curtail them at best through the conclusion of an official reconciliation pact with the FAF chairman, namely Mohamed Raouraoua.

• Rachid Bouabdallah also indicated that a reconciliation agreement, if any, could have a slight impact on the nature of the sanctions, adding that the Egyptian side is now desperately yearning for a written reconciliation in order to convey it to the FIFA in the ultimate hope of subduing the sanctions.

• The FAF lawyer expressed amazement at the postponement decided by the World football governing body of the announcement of the sanctions against the Egyptians until May 18th.

• He emphasized, in this connection, that the inconceivable 6-month adjournment of the verdict decided by the FIFA, was ostensibly designed to absorb the legitimate anger of the Algerian side and to ward off any strong reaction in case of a “symbolic” sanction against the Egyptians, as the Algerian people including the FAF officials are now riveting the spotlight on the Algeria squad’s preparation for the World cup tournament in South Africa starting from May 13th.
