Family judge to regulate divorce in Algeria

After a whole year of reflection before putting it into force, the new civil code issued new measures to regulate divorce in Algeria, for the first time ever a family judge, endowed with large prerogatives, has been appointed to deal exclusively with the matter.

• The law gives the prerogatives to the judge to proceed to investigations as well as on spot supervisions whenever necessary. As to the time allocated to issue the law, the justice minister said that the lengthy document which comprises some 1000 articles was the main reason behind this delay.
• Talking in a seminar on civil and administrative legislation, the justice minister Tayeb Belaiz said that the revised legislative system created 95 new laws including 33 which treat several aspects of criminality, notably those dealing with money laundry, contraband, terrorism financing, corruption and the illegal use of narcotics.
