 The public Prosecutor’s office of the Algiers court said Thursday that the judicial instructions issued in a number of corruption cases have led to the lifting of charges and the detention of others against former ministers and walis or governors.

“Anxious to keep the public informed of the latest developments in corruption cases, the general prosecutor’s office of the Algiers court said that the judicial investigations led to the lifting of charges against former ministers and walis in a number of cases,” said the statement of the general prosecutor’s office.

As regards the case of the Algerian Highway Authority (ADA), the investigation resulted in the lifting of charges against Mohamed Bedjaoui in his capacity as former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Chakib Khelil in his capacity as former Minister of Energy and Mines, and Amar Ghoul in his capacity as former Minister of Public Works.

With regard to the Sonatrach II bribery case, the investigation led to the lifting of charges against Mohamed Chakib Khalil in his capacity as former Minister of Energy and Mines, while the judicial investigation opened in the case of the National Agency for Dams and Transfers (ANBT) resulted in the withdrawal of charges against the defendants notably Abdelmalek Sellal, in his capacity as former Minister of Water Resources, Fatmi Rachid in his capacity as former wali of Bejaia, Hocine Ouadah in his capacity as former wali of Tizi Ouzou, and Nouria Yamina Zerhouni in his capacity as former wali of Mostaganem.

The judicial investigation opened in the case of the public company “BATIGEC” resulted in the lifting of charges against the appointee Hamid Temmar, former Minister of Participations and Investment Promotion, while in the case of BRC, the investigation resulted in the removal of the responsibility of the appointees Mohamed Chakib Khalil in his capacity as former Minister of Energy and Mines and Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, as manager of the company BRC Algeria.

In the SNC LAVALIN corruption case, open information has brought charges against the two former Ministers of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Chakib Khalil and Noureddine Boutarfa respectively.

In these cases, the examining magistrates of the Sidi M’hamed court issued orders of inadmissibility “ratione personae”, the same source said, noting that the files were transmitted to the Attorney General at the Supreme Court in accordance with the provisions of Article 573 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
