Some 80 policewomen will join anti-riots forces in Algeria, according to national police chief.

  • “Around 80 policewomen will work for anti-riots forces,” Ali Tounsi told Echorouk Thursday.
  • “Policewomen now have a high level of experience and skills. People can feel their important role.”
  •  “Women proved their competence on the ground just like men in the same position. Some of them were promoted to high ranking responsibilities as police superintendent,” he said.
  • Tounsi also said around 15 new police stations will be opened in Algiers especially in shanty town to tighten the noise on suicide bombers and criminals.
  • He stressed the importance of cooperation between people and the police. “This would urge policemen to make more efforts to gain people’s confidence.”
