Former leaders of the banned-Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) started political consultations ahead of the forthcoming presidential elections in an attempt to present the initiative of unifying Islamic trend once again.

Hachemi Sahnouni, a former senior member at the FIS told Echorouk some former leaders of the party plan to launch a new initiative to gather the Islamic trend parties and come up with a unique candidate to run for office.
He added that a similar initiative shortly before the last legislative elections was hindered due to “selfishness and political interests.”
“This initiative must be hailed as long as it aims at unifying the Islamic parties. Partisans must be Muslim and committed to the Islamic law.
Speaking about the political arena, Sahnouni said nothing may happen. “Emptiness will always be there as long as parties do not react.”
