Floods isolate the population, displaced families

Torrential rains that fell during the last 48 hours, in the areas stretching from Ain Temouchent (western Algeria) to Boumerdes (eastern Algiers), caused large material losses, saying, because of the collapse of a number of fragile housing, including the tragic incident in the neighborhood of “Alzagara” in Algiers, resulting in the death of a child three years, and also stopped traffic because of the deteriorating situation of the roads, and the freezing of lessons in many educational institutions that were flooded as well.

The western regions were the most affected by the latter bad weather, given the size of the considerable material losses, that have been recorded, and the occurrence of many injuries among residents in fragile houses, because of partial landslides, that affected the fragile and chaotic buildings, and traffic accidents, that have been registered, and flooding due to the fall of more than 80 mm of rain, and uprooting trees and electricity poles as a result of strong winds that reached the speed of 70 km per hour.

Water flooded several neighborhoods in all the municipalities of Oran (western Algeria), as the services of the civil protection recorded more than 30 intervention, and flooding of valleys in masarghine and Hassi Buamama caused the isolation of the population and trapping of students in schools, and the occurrence of several landslides of roofs and walls of the fragile buildings, and injuring residents with varying degrees.
In Bayad (southern Algeria), studies stopped in a number of schools, that were inundated by rainwater along with departments and posts, and in several streets and neighborhoods, three people were wounded by traffic accidents and walls of fragile buildings fell. In Mostaghanem (western Algeria), water flooded several chaotic neighborhoods, including the village of Sidi Charef in the municipality of Sirat.
The situation in Naama (southern Algeria), was worse witnessing almost complete aparalysis in traffic, having been closed the National Road No. 6 at the level of Al Machria municipality, and other passages, as snow also accumulated on about 20 kilometers between Southern Naame Municipality and Ain Maktaa Daly, as the services of the civil protection recorded 35 interventions in this region, and provided help for 9 wounded who were injured in a traffic accident that occurred in Ben Ammar circuit in the national road No. 22, and recovered several vehicles that were swept in valleys, saving three people who were swept away by water of Ouad Arafa.
