FM Kouchner urges French nationals to keep working in Algeria

French Foreign Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner called Algeria “a country where we must work” to further develop trade ties.

  • Kouchner said the French government will not issue any new security warnings to workers in Algeria. He said on RTL radio Monday that Algeria had become a “dangerous” country.

  • Two bombs killed a French engineer and his Algerian driver Sunday in the town of Beni Amrane in Boumerdes province (50 km east of Algiers).
  • The French minister indicated a political will to fight and eradicate terrorism. He said the so-called Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is under surveillance in France.

  • On the other hand, he said foreign workers should be “cautious” and not travel alone in Algeria.
