The Algeria national squad have secured a major win on the psychological plan by beating Wednesday evening at the Tchaker stadium of Blida by 2 goals to 1 the team of Benin in a friendly international match as part of the preparation for the 2010 World Cup / Africa Cup of Nations competition.

The “Greens” applied a great pressure on the Benin players shortly after kick – off and missed by a whisker a goal by talented midfielder Nadir Belhadj in the first minutes of the game.

After the replacement on the right side of Slimane Raho for injury by Rabie Meftah, striker Ghiles also missed a goal after an collective offensive spurt.

The much – awaited first goal for the ‘Fennecs” came at the 36th minute from centre – forward Abdelkader Ghazal after receiving a good ball from defender Bouguerra.

This goal was received with great joy and applause from the thousands of Algerian fans present in the Blida stadium.

Everyone was expecting the players of Benin to strike back, but the Algerians continued to dominate their opponents.

The second Algerian goal was scored at the 43rd minute of the game by striker Kamel Fethi Ghiles who got a beautiful pass from right – winger Bezzaz in the area of the Benin defense which was overwhelmed by the stamina and swiftness of the Algerian strikers.

In the second – half, national coach Rabah Saadane substituted 2 players namely Zarabi and Lazhar Hadj Aissa who replaced Belhadj and Bezzaz with the aim of boosting the Algerian mid – field and giving more stimulus to the offensive line.

The Algerian players demonstrated great potentialities by literally holding sway nearly throughout the match.

The Benin players were subdued but succeeded, all the same, in scoring a goal at the 87th minute of play.

All in all, the Algeria line – up largely deserved this victory which will surely boost the morale of the Algerian players in expectation of the kick – off of the official competition.
