Many Arab and foreign investors appear in court on various charges including sex trade, embezzlement and counterfeiting. On the other hand, other investors were cheated by some Algerian people.

Many Syrian investors appear in court in Algiers on various charges including smuggling. Earlier in April, airport police caught a Syrian investor hiding 793g of gold in his shoes. He could pass by the scanner but his unstable state unveiled his plan. A court in Algiers sentenced the 50-year-old man to a year in prison and he paid compensation to customs administration. He smuggled gold jewels under trade cover.

In 2006, a court in Algiers sentenced three Syrian investors to 3 years in prison for giving fake invoices to the bank. They imported textile from abroad and turned it into clothes in factories they own in eastern Algeria.

A French national entered Algeria with a fake visa and smuggled hard currency and a car with the help of an Algerian man living in France. Three border guards helped him to pass through the airport without any problem. All of them were prosecuted for counterfeiting and smuggling hard currency. His case was discovered in Mars after investigators had found out that he had a fake visa.

Many foreigner businessmen are cheated by Algerian people. Of them, A French director of a computer company were cheated by three people. One of them alleged that he was a general’s son and another said he had a hotel. They brought him to an isolated place in Algiers where they hurt him with a knife and stole him.

The victim came to Algeria to attend the international exhibition on construction and housing held in 2009. The cheaters convinced him to deal with him in buying construction-related electronic programs. They invited him to dinner in a roast meat shop in front of Mercure hotel. They gave him fake documents and invited him to eat fish in the area of Bousmail. They took him to an isolated place where they threatened him using a knife and stole his laptop, money and mobile phones.

A fresh graduate man cheated a Jordanian investor who managed a company in Algiers. He employed the Algerian man as the General Director’s assistant. Three years later, he discovered that he created a company operating in the same activity in another area. He also transferred the Jordanian company’s equipment to his own account.

A Tunisian national decided to invest in Algiers. He rented a shop facing the sea to turn it to a restaurant. He made a deal with the shop owner to rent it for five years. Yet, he could not start his investment as the shop owner filled a lawsuit against him to terminate the contract. The investor’s lawyer told Echorouk his client is in a bad psychological state and he decided to come back to his country.
