Former military officer involved in drug trafficking
The criminal court of Oran (wesrtern Algeria) yesterday started hearing in a serious case dealing with drug trafficking that involved a former military man and his son-in- law accused of being part of an international network that smuggled huge quantities of drug through the borders since 1996.

The criminals were arrested by elements of the National Gendarmerie in December 2, 2007 following collected intelligence that spotted two suspected cars loaded with drug in an area called “KArtat”.

Both smugglers are said to belong to wider network led by “barons” operating outside and inside the Algerian borders.

During the investigations, the convict revealed to the inquirers that he was operating with his son-in-law, as they were transporting the drug to the Moroccan borders to be passed to unidentified traffickers in the other side of the borders.
