Former military officer involved in drug trafficking

The criminal court of Oran (wesrtern Algeria) yesterday started hearing in a serious case dealing with drug trafficking that involved a former military man and his son-in- law accused of being part of an international network that smuggled huge quantities of drug through the borders since 1996.

  • The criminals were arrested by elements of the National Gendarmerie in December 2, 2007 following collected intelligence that spotted two suspected cars loaded with drug in an area called “KArtat”.

  • Both smugglers are said to belong to wider network led by “barons” operating outside and inside the Algerian borders.
  •  
  • During the investigations, the convict revealed to the inquirers that he was operating with his son-in-law, as they were transporting the drug to the Moroccan borders to be passed to unidentified traffickers in the other side of the borders.
