France Is Still Paying Pensions For 9000 Harkis
Parliamentary accountability of the French National Assembly revealed that 9000 civil Harkis who were mostly members of the former administrative offices that are known as the “SAS” still receive pensions and grants from the French government today.
According to the accountability of an MP in the French Parliament, Franck Raynier, (Union of Democrats and Independents), which is dated December 20, 2016, that the French government is required to re-count the individuals who have served France during the Algerian war, of the affiliated group of civilians (civilian harkis), indicating that the files that were deposited to obtain pensions exceeded 9000 files, while the federation of war veterans and those who were evacuated from Algeria refers to accepting 300 files so far only, which requires an urgent re-census.
French MPs asked, during the current year, more than 150 questions about the situation of harkis and the civilian harkis who were deported from Algeria, and the pied-noirs as well, as the subject of the harkis, and those who were deported from Algeria, and pieds-noirs was the most discussed by the French Parliament.
In addition to this, the French MPs recently presented a new draft law that recognizes the responsibility of France in what it described as the collective massacres against harkis and their families who stayed in Algeria, and who were neglected by France after Algeria’s independence, and to recognize the sacrifices of those Muslims who fought with France and who are still faithful to it.
