France refuses to apologise for colonial crimes in Algeria

French Foreign Affairs Ministry said it will neither consider Italy's decision to give Libya five billion dollars as compensation for colonial era damage a precedent nor a reference.

  • French foreign ministry spokesman Eric Chevallier told reporters “The French authorities have unambiguously recognised the injustice of the colonial system.”
  •
  • The spokesman’s remarks show that the French position toward the colonial ear can not be shaken by the developments of other colonial countries’ positions.
  • France insists on not recognising its crimes in Algeria in spite of what it did which can not be compared to colonial Italy’s acts in Libya. Because of that, Algerian authorities are required to reactivate the “pressure” using its different assets.  Economic favouritism enjoyed by French companies in Algeria compared to other countries is on the top of these assets.
