French nuclear group “Areva” to build the first Algerian nuclear plant

Well informed source from the French nuclear group “Areva” revealed that his company is on the pole position to win the bid for the construction of the first nuclear facility dedicated to energy in Algeria within few years.

  • The source added that this company will most probably get the permit for the exploitation of Uranium mines in Algeria due to the similarities in the policies followed by both countries in the energy field, notably as concerns natural gas and the cooperation in the nuclear energy. Several deals are set to be sealed in this sector during the visit of the French Prime Minister, François Fillon to Algiers on June, 21.
  • For his part, the head of the French chamber of trade and industry, Michel de Cavarli, asserted that the French companies operating in Algeria will not move despite hovering threats on western firms and workforce operating in this country.
  • On the contrary, he added, these companies will continue to invest in the Algerian market stressing the fact that these companies will not shift their marketing policy and the strong participation of the French companies in the 41st session of Algiers’ international fair was a clear proof.
  • In this respect, the number of the French companies that took part in the Algiers’ international fair reached over 160 led by the service sector, public works, agriculture, banks and hydrocarbons.
  • M Cavarli, added that his country takes the lead in terms of foreign investments in Algeria apart from the hydrocarbons sector, with approximately 1.75 billion euros likely to increase according to the French managers.
  • Top French managers, including “ Societe General” general manager, denied allegations saying that their employers asked them to quit Algeria insisting on the fact that his company has  set up a he plan to spread its network across the Algerian territory.
