French President Sarkozy links between Euro-Mediterranean Union and National Day: Algerian historian
Mutual respect should exist between Algeria and France.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy chose to hold a meeting on the launching of the Euro-Mediterranean Union on France's National Day on purpose. “It embodies political and symbolic signs,” said an Algerian historian.

Mohamed Korsso said France gives a big importance to the so-called political symbolism as it was the same case for a visit paid by French ambassador Bernard Bajolet to Guelma (east of Algiers) on the eve of the May 8th 1945’s massacres anniversary.
-
He criticised the Euro-Mediterranean Union as “it is an attempt to push Arab countries such as Syria and Algeria to normalise ties with Israel.”
-
According to him, Sarkozy wants to make them believing that his project is inevitable strategic choice.
