The Algiers-based Tiers Monde book shop displays books written by candidates for the French presidential elections. This looks like an electoral campaign inaugurated in Algeria.

One of the candidates chose to visit their old colonized land to ensure support. They were also interested in addressing to a large audience in this country. Algerians follow those elections as a large number of them are living in France.

Alain Juppé was the only candidate who visited Algeria to seek support. French media present him as the strongest competitor. In his book, he calls for a “strong state.

“We need a strong state. This is my conviction to ensure citizens’ freedom. Rights state should ensure security and establish justice in an efficient way,” he said in his book.

Juppé expresses his vision to French people to discuss immigration, integration and security issues.

The book which seems the most important one for Algerians is that of Nicolas Sarkozy. It shows commitments to French people concerning relations between Algiers and Paris.

In this book, Sarkozy criticizes the government and his own achievements. He also tells the reasons which pushed him to come back to the political scene.

“France is going to hit a deadlock,” he said in his book.

He also talked about his personal and family life including his marriage with his modal girlfriend in 2008.

“Living with a girlfriend in the Élysée Palace is allowed by the law and politically acceptable but it is a catastrophe on the human level,” he said.

He denied allegations that he received money from Gaddafi to fund his electoral campaign.

He also washed hands of racism, giving the example of appointing Algerian-born Rachida Dati as a minister.  This is to say that French people “are equal in justice if they are French-born or have immigration origins.”

In his book, Sarkozy calls for strong and unified Europe to face the refugees crisis along with culture.
