Gendarmerie Services Arrest A Cell Of Smuggling Cars From Libya To Algeria
National Gendarmerie services arrested an international cell that is specialized in the import of foreign cars of different brands through smuggling from Libya towards Tamanrasset, then to various provinces of the country for resale in the Algerian market, after falsifying the administrative documents.
According to the case, the platoon of research of the Gendarmerie services of Tamanrasset (southern Algeria), received information about a cell of Algerian and Libyan nationals, who are involved in smuggling vehicles of various types and falsifying documents, before deciding to open an investigation in the case, as investigators of the research platoon monitored the cell’s movements, which operates on the axis Djanet in Illizi province, through the territorial link between the cities of Djanet and Tamanrasset to avoid surveillance by security services.
Investigations led to the arrest of a gang which members’ ages range between 20 and 45 years, including a Libyan national, as they were aboard three vehicles in the checkpoint, where they were taken to the headquarters of the research platoon of the Gendarmerie of Tamanrasset to continue the investigation.
The gang consists of six people who smuggle these vehicles through the wild Libyan border traffic in Illizi and Djanet, after drawing the road map for movement, in collusion with the parties that falsify the gray cards, after receiving the serial numbers for the vehicles.
Security services seized 3 cars of the type Hyundai Accent, and many of the mobile phones that are used in communication between members of the cell, and a considerable sum of money of the Libyan currency.
Smugglers were presented before the prosecutor at the court of jurisdiction which accused them of importing foreign vehicles through smuggling and falsification of administrative documents and certificates.
