Ghaleb Badr calls on the Algerian authorities to reopen “Tibhirrine “ monastry
Ghaleb Badr

On the occasion of the visit paid by the disciples of the “Souffi” method to the church of “Tibhirrine” in the province of Medea for the celebration the100 anniversary of its creation in 1909, the archbishop of Algiers Badr Ghaleb has called on the Algerian authorities to reopen this church 13 years after the assassination of the seven popes by a terrorist group.

  • Talking in the company of the French ambassador to Algiers, Xavier Deancourt and a number of priests based in Algeria, M Ghaleb has indicated that the return of the church’s activities is excellent news for the poor and desperate people who used to be assisted by these priests for more than 200 years.
  • He added that the church has nothing to do with the campaign of evangelization launched in some regions of the country saying that these people are paid by foreign parties. He slammed the Algerian authorities for having a part of responsibility in this campaign.
  • He went on saying” The Algerian authorities had to deny visas entries to suspicious individuals known for being evangelists and not blaming his church for the others’ crimes”.
  • The head of the Algerian church has noted that the law regulating religious practices in Algeria has limited the freedom of cult in this country. He called for a more flexible regulation to protect the Christian community based in Algeria from any incrimination linked to evangelization
