government clears debts of Algerian peasants and farmers
Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced the government will clear the farmers and peasants’ debts estimated at 41b dinars, he said “The state treasury will buy these debts. I call the banks not to ask peasants and farmers about their debtsâ€.

The decision by the president came after his supervision Saturday on the national symposium about developing agriculture and rural areas in Biskra, south of Algeria, where he talked about the measures for the benefit of agriculture and farming.

The president’s speech contains:

First: Government will support the prices of fertilizers for all types of production.

Second: A general assistance will be allocated for the acquisition of agricultural equipments. This assistance will be directed to the rental sale of equipments that are locally manufactured.

Third: Despite the decline in grain prices in the global market, government decided to keep the prices as they are for the agricultural products such as wheat and barley.

Forth: The production of milk will also benefit from assistance by the government.

Fifth: Production of meat will benefit from assistance as well.

Sixth: government will grant important assistance for the production of fruits such as olive which will receive special aid as well as dates.

Seventh: in order to develop efficiency of tires in the agricultural field, the ministry of education will intensify formation of engineers and graduated in farming and agriculture.

Eight: Finally, in order to encourage farmers and peasants. I’m pleased to announce the government’s decision to clear all the debts of farmers and peasants which are 41b dinars.

Bouteflika called on people to make efforts in order to ensure food and spoke about a project to transfer the groundwater from the south to 10 provinces in the high plateaus, action that may develop agricultural and peasants who suffer from drought.
