Government due to overhaul the public industrial sector

After 17 years of reluctance, the government has decided to a launch a plan to overhaul the public industrial sector including all the branches through a partnership program with domestic and foreign industrial poles with the view to boosting the domestic demands.

  • The small and medium-sized companies’ ministry has been tasked by the government to initiate a plan which consist in rehabilitating the national industrial capacities, boosting other branches away from the hydrocarbons sector and finally, streamlining them technologically.
  • A source close to the taskforce appointed by the minister Cherif Rahmani to supervise the operation, has revealed that the government’s plan will consist in giving a fresh impetus to the national industrial network, with a particular focus on the merging national private industrial sector.
  • The same source has indicated that the Algerian authorities will join between light and heavy industries in order to retrieve the sector’s equilibrium and create genuine job opportunities
  • Industrial champions like car and truck makers including Renault, MAN, Mercedes and Volkswagen , in addition to major steel and cement companies like Lafarge are set to merge their efforts with national ones to launch this ambitious program.
  • Unlike the former minister Abdelhamid Temmar, who resorted to foreign consulting bureaus to supervise the operation, the government has this time around called on the national experts like the advisor of the former president Liamine Zeroual, professor Abdelmadjid Bouzidi, doctor Mustapha Mekideche, Abdelhak Laamiri and professor Baissi from the university of Bejaia.
