“Greens” of Algeria Likely To Take Part In friendly Football Tournament in the USA

The United States Football Association is planning to host a friendly international tournament ahead of the 2018 World Cup, and the Greens of Algeria may be one of the national teams invited to take part in the projected sporting event.

It is known that the next football World Cup will take place between the 14th of June and the 15th of next July in Russia and the American national team will miss this entitlement after failing to secure a berth in the World cup finals as part of the CONCACAF region qualifiers (North America, Central America and the Caribbean).

The United States Football Association is planning to organize this tournament with exceptional participation, involving several national teams that will not attend the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia. 

The news was reported by the American television network “ESPN” which quoted an official of the US football association as saying that his body wants to secure the participation of national teams such as Italy, the Netherlands, Chile and from Africa, as well as his own country.

The US official did not specify their exact number, nor did he reveal the identity of the African continent’s teams due to take part in this projected friendly football tournament.

He however pointed out that the invited teams will not participate in the 2018 World Cup, adding that the organization of this planned friendly tournament will be carried out ahead of the kick off of the World Cup in Russia. 

In addition, the United States Football Association has not specified the objective of this unprecedented friendly football tournament. 

The US football Federation may have started preparing for the 2026 World Cup, as the US is keen to co-organize this world football contest with neighbors Canada and Mexico, but FIFA will be deciding to name the country in 2020.

The Algerian national football squad has already participated in similar international friendly matches, but this was with national teams already qualified for the World Cup finals. This occurred in Mexico in December 1985.

The then national team coach, Rabah Saadane,   supervised the Greens of Algeria in their friendly fixtures versus their counterparts from this Latin American country (Mexico), as well as Hungary and South Korea, and the four national squads were then bracing up for the 1986 World Cup contest.
