Gross human rights abuses committed against Algerian immigrants in Spain.
Illegal immigrants or "Harragas".
The chairman of the European Federation in charge of Algerian migrants overseas Benmadah Nourredine has said that Algerian immigrants in Spain, including numerous “Harragasâ€, are being subjected to an appalling and degrading treatment on the part of Spanish authorities including coast-guards and border police.

Speaking Sunday during a press conference at the national solidarity Ministry premises in upper Algiers, he said that scores of Algerian migrants had been stripped of all their possessions and thrown into prison cells with no contact with the outside world.

Many of them, he stressed, had been beaten up and assaulted by Spanish prison wardens.

He further indicated that many of these ill treated Algerians had been kept in detention for several years now with no legal back-up, stressing that the unscrupulous “barons” behind the illegal immigration phenomenon should be rounded up and brought before justice, because they are the main culprits stoking the burning “harraga” issue, as he put it.
