Half of Algerian young people exclude marriage from their plans
A total of 50 percent of young people in Algeria brushed aside marriage because of hard economic and social conditions.

Algeria counts 18 millions bachelors, 11 among women and 7 among men. All of them didn’t succeed to build a family because social and economic problems.

  • A study conducted by the women and children rights’ record center, revealed that 50 percent of young people in Algeria brushed aside marriage because of hard economic and social conditions.
  • The survey concluded to the fact that 43% of them are seriously thinking of migration to foster their economic and social conditions, while very few seek to marry with foreign women to secure a better living abroad.
  • For his part, the head of the association for the marriage of young Algerians “Almaoukoufa”, cheikh Chemseddine declared “The young Algerian was pushed to celibacy because he has to finish his studies, do his military service, look for a job, a house than think about the wedding fares”. These elements stand at the face of the young men and make of marriage “an unreachable dream”.
  • In a bid to alleviate the burden, many associations called for the creation of a national marriage fund similar to those existing in the gulf countries, partly financed by the religious affairs ministry. This fund will solve the problem of nearly the third of the number of bachelors.

  •  Estimates show that Algeria takes the lead in the Arab world in terms of celibacy after Lebanon where the phenomenon touches 95% of young men and 83% of women aged between 25 and 30.
  • The rate varies from one country to another, for celibacy in Saudi Arabia touched 60% of young people, 50% in Syria and 30% in Egypt.
