Half of the people with breast cancer are threatened by death in Algeria
The Association Al Amal « hope », active in the fight against cancer, warned Tuesday of the catastrophic and tragic situation in Algeria, in the dealing with cases of cancer and the delay in the diagnosis of the disease, particularly the breast cancer.

Al Amal Association and doctors specialists in the fight against cancer tumours insisted, during the press conference hosted by Al Moudjahid newspaper, on the need to urgent national plan to combat cancer, through organizing an urgent national symposium which could bring together all the sectors to study and discuss the situation of the cancer in Algeria, and find solutions and positive results, as the association called on the Algerian president to supervise on the national plan to give it important dimensions.

In the first to proceed to the early diagnosis, a project of Al Mouhamedia centre will start during January 2010 and would initially involve 15.000 women over the ago of 40, as the services will be free for insured persons, and convocations to undergo testing will be send to them, as they will be free to accept or refuse.

This centre will be the first model centre through which government will decide to create other centres during the coming years; as such process lasted many years in many developed countries like France, which launched its first model experience in 1987, and generalise it in 2004, meaning that in Algeria the process will take many years, and until then, Algeria has to record more cases of late diagnosis, as Algeria counts 80% of the late diagnosis cases, compared to similar cases in the developed countries which notice early diagnosis.

In terms of figures, the specialists said that breast cancer recorded 7.000 cases annually in Algeria, where it killed 50% of the patients the equivalent of 3500 cases, of the total 30.000 cases of new cases of cancer in Algeria.

Doctors’ specialists explained that most of the tumours reached the size of 37 mm after diagnosis, making it difficult or impossible to rescue the patients.

Al Amal Association revealed on the launching of many campaigns of awareness on January 2010 in order to sensitize people of the importance of diagnosis and their positive reaction with the symptoms of cancer.
