Hattab’s supporters seek to make terrorists surrender

Repentant activists belonging to the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) have been contacting terrorists follwing a recent statement posted by Hassan Hattab, the group’s founder.

“They have also been contacting the activists of the Salafist Call Protectors led by Mohamed Ben Salim nicknamed Salim Afghani,” security sources told Echorouk.

“The repentant terrorists are trying to convince their fellows to surrender and benefit from the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation,” said the same sources.

Earlier, the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera had broadcast an audio tape of Hassan Hattab who urged terrorists to stop their acts and surrender to authorities.

Observers believe Hattab has gained credibility about which the GSPC’s leader Abdelmalek Droudkel and his followers are concerned.

Hattab stepped up his actions after a series of suicide attacks that had rocked Algeria. He has always been calling on new recruited to convince them that they were misled.

The Salafist Call Protectors led by Salim Al Afghani were the first to denounce the suicide attacks, describing them as illegitimate.

Many of Salim Al Afghani’s followers had surrendered following an awareness-raising campaign launched by security forces in association with terrorists’ families.

Sources say the campaign is aimed at the remaining terrorist leaders especially that Hattab has information on his former companions who consider surrendering.
