Houari Tighrissi: “Businessmen should Contribute To Recover Stolen Money, Local Tax Dues”

Member of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National People’s Assembly, Houari Tighrissi, called for the intervention of the Forum of Heads of Institutions and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to negotiate, to bring back the money of the Algerians which is abroad, and to collect the tax evasion money locally.

He told Echorouk that the time is right to mobilize all financial resources to face the Coronavirus.

“The economic and social circumstance that the country is going through, due to the Coronavirus spread, requires everyone to mobilize all financial resources to confront it. The Forum of Heads of Institutions and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry should negotiate, to bring back the money of the Algerians which is abroad and that was stolen by the mafia. The same thing should be done at the local level, as 80% of Algerian traders do not pay taxes”.

“Economic trials will not be feasible at the moment, because they take a long time without results, therefore the government should resort to negotiation and mediation by the Lawyers ’Organization, the Forum of Heads of Institutions and the Chamber of Industry and Trade to settle the dispute and return the money without resorting to the courts”.

“What is required in the next stage is to adopt a method of negotiation and reconsidering the tax system, which constitutes a danger and contributes to the exacerbation of the phenomenon of fiscal evasion”.

The member of the Finance and Budget Committee suggested that a single tax system should be approved in Algeria, which includes all taxes for traders, a proposal that would raise the value of tax collection.

“Algerian government should maintain social support for vulnerable groups. In light of the exceptional circumstance due to the spread of the coronavirus, and the tax on people with low incomes should be cancelled, and the payment of the electricity, water and gas bill should be postponed until the end of Coronavirus”.
