Hundreds of Malian and Nigerian families seek refuge in Algeria

More than 2,000 Nigeria and Malian refugees, who fled their home lands to escape civil war, are living in precarious conditions in makeshift tents deprived from basic needs facing starvation and illness.

• Some 150 families fled to Algeria since the outbreak of the conflict opposing rebels and the regular army in both Mali and Niger, forcing them to leave what they called “hell” to settle under merciful skies.
• Many of them refused to move to the neighboring Burkinafasso, arguing that they were convinced that “ in Algeria they can seek refuge and life conditions were far better”.
