Executive Decree of the Ministry of Commerce on opening shops in religious feasts and holidays, aims to ensure bread on the two days of Eid Al Adha to avoid the queues, Head of the Federation of Algerian bakers, Youcef Kalfat told Echorouk.
“If owners of bakeries will violate this law they will be subject to sanctions, including closure of their bakeries for a whole month, and his commercial register will be transfered to justice for a fine”, he added.
Youcef Kalfat revealed that Sunday’s meeting, regarding the activation of the new Executive Decree, led to the formation of joint monitoring committees between the Directorate of Commerce and head of the department and the labor inspectorate, that will monitor the situation during the two days of Eid al-Adha, as these teams will launch an inspection campaign to bakeries that are obliged to work.
The process of preparing the lists of bakeries that will work during Eid al-Adha is under way, containing the names, addresses and Commercial Registration Numbers, and the owners’ phone numbers as well, and in case of any violation, authorities will immediately note it, in the case of the closure of a Bakery.
“Head of the department or his deputy will take care of the job, and will identify the lists of bakers and shopkeepers, which will work on the two days of Eid al-Adha, as every baker will work alternately, for example, the baker, who works on the first day of the Eid, does not work on the second day. A copy of these lists will be placed at the office of the governor, and another copy at the office of the head of the department,” he explained.
As for the number of bakeries that will be recruited on the Eid, the spokesman stressed that it will not be less than 50%, which means that 7,000 bakeries will work on Eid al-Adha.
In response to whether these instructions will be applied on the ground, he confirmed that this is the task of the Ministry of Commerce, adding that it is impossible to force the bakeries’ owners to open their shops, but they are required to take into account the needs of citizens.
