Influenza raises fear among Algerians
Prevalence of recent deadly influenza virus raised a state of panic and fear among Algerians, at a time when there were conflicting views of professionals in the diagnosis of the virus between pigs flu “H1N1” and the severe seasonal flu, and between this and that they warn of the intense seasonal influenza that may cause of death if the patient has a chronic illness or is too old, or pregnant women as well.
In this context, President of the National Council for medical profession and Deanship of Algerian doctors, Berkani Bekkat, said that the virus is widespread in Algeria, and killed 15 people, which is a seasonal influenza, and explain that the current dangerous virus is like “H1N1”, but this virus is less dangerous, considering that this virus evolves from year to year.
“Current virus is a type of severe seasonal influenza that is caused by climate change, which Algeria noticed recently, as the fall was warm and the cold wave that followed the heat caused the evolution of seasonal influenza virus, which causes, with the current extreme cold, paralysis of self-defense the human body and the work of bronchi what made the virus spread and cause death if coupled with the patient’s chronic diseases.”
“Cause of the spread of influenza is the hesitation of citizens in the vaccination despite the availability of vaccines in pharmacies, due to the lack of awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the seriousness of influenza, which evolve from one year to another. Deaths due to severe influenza existed for years in hospitals, but we did not hear of them like now.”
“Citizens should take caution and be more careful from the spread of the virus, which may be fatal if it will coincide with a chronic disease or in elderly and pregnant women. Patients should consult a doctor as soon as they will feel symptoms of Influenza like high fever, fatigue and friction with others whether at home or work in order to avoid infection.”
