Initiatives war and alliances logic came back to the political arena in Algeria amid a possible clash between power wings ahead of the presidential elections due to be held in 2014.

Earlier, former health minister and former member of the Council of the Nation Djamel Ould Abbas said he had information that the final formulation of the draft law on the constitutional amendment is about to be ready.

“I expect that Parliament’s two chambers will be summoned up to meet and pass the text.”

Ould Abbas’ remarks show that he wanted to end the debate and doubts in the political and media arena about Algerian President Bouteflika’s intentions in terms of his political future.

Ahead of the next presidential elections, the political arena was turned into a battlefield between the president’s partisans and opponents.

Observers believe that a political change will happen in the next few days as former leader of Algeria’s FLN party Ali Benflis announced he will run for office. It is possible that former heads of government Mouloud Hamrouche and Ahmed Ouyahia would run for office as well along with other names.
