International Media Would Have Field Days With Algeria Peaceful Demonstrations
Algeria Fridays’ million-man demonstrations have become historical, against Bouteflika’s bid for a fifth term, and the largest world media would have field days with the rapid developments that made the reported, analysed and commented news.
Reuters, published on its website; “Tens of thousands of Algerians packed central Algiers to capacity on Friday to challenge President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s 20-year-old rule in the biggest protests in the capital in 28 years”.
“Unusually, one of the most popular imams, or prayer leaders, in Algiers did not pray for the president as he does every Friday, and only wished the best for Algeria and its people”.
Deutsche Welle website chose a title; “Algerians rally against the ailing president as opposition activist arrested in Switzerland”.
“Masses of Algerians have protested demanding hospitalized President Abdelaziz Bouteflika drop his bid for a 5th term. One opposition member went to great lengths to obtain details on the president’s current condition”.
British “Financial Times” published an article by Andrew England saying; “The response to weeks of protests in Algeria is like how the Egyptian regime responded in 2011 to the popular demonstrations at the time”.
“The echo of the Arab uprisings of 2011 is currently in Algeria, where an elderly leader (Abdelaziz Bouteflika) clings to power while large numbers of people went down to the streets demanding the ailing president not to run for another term.”
French “Le Monde” chose to hold an interview with the political sociologist Nasser Jabi, explaining the reasons for the Algerians to move on this scale, considering that this was part of the “new community culture” of Algeria.
“In Algeria, a revolution erupts”, under the title above, Alexander Bratirski wrote in the Russian “Gazeta Roux” about the Algerians’ protests against Bouteflika’s bid for a fifth term, he said: “In 2013, the Algerian president, 82, did not appear almost in front of people. However, he recently announced his intention to run for a fifth term, but the people of the country did not appreciate his desire”.
n the Arab World, Saudi “Elaph” published an article under the title “Algerians decide: Bouteflika leave!”.
“The streets of Algeria on Friday looked like a raging ocean, with an unprecedented flood of people, including all ages, groups, sexes and categories, agreeing to say “no to Bouteflika” and “no to the fifth term”.
“Hundreds of thousands protest in Algeria to reject Bouteflika’s bid for a fifth term. Hundreds of thousands demonstrated in 48 Algerian provinces in the “Friday of Dignity” rejecting President Bouteflika’s bid for a 5th term.”
Qatar “Al-Jazeera” channel preferred to broadcast direct marches from different Algerian cities.
