Investigations opened into local government money in Algeria

General Department of Finance Inspection in Algeria has opened investigations on the running of local government's funds.

  • The inspectors started investigating into the Common Fund of Local Government Financing which constitutes a public institution with an administrative character. Some 75 percent of its resources are from municipalities while 25 percent are from provinces.
  • The move of the inspection department comes after Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia gave it the go-ahead via an executive decree promulgated in September.
  • Local government has allocated 22 billion DZ for a middle-term-payment of debts of 1,472 municipalities out of 1,541 in the country.
  • Financial inspectors deployed in five regions in Algeria will be in charge of keeping watch on financial and accounting running.
