Iraqi ambassador to Algiers: 5 Algerians only are detained in Iraq
The Iraqi ambassador to Algiers Aadi Al Khier Allah has yesterday y revealed that 5 Algerians are detained in “ Soussa†prison, northern Iraq, after being sentenced in the past to 15 to 17 years; noting that “ those prisoners entered illegally the Iraqi territories in different periods of time†and could be involved in suspicious activities since some were circulating with 10 passports from different countries.
- Two among them have refused to comeback to their native country for unknown reasons after serving their term, knowing that Iraq and Algeria didn’t seal agreements concerning the extradition of prisoners so far.
- The ambassador has further indicated” Iraq was an open space for all nationalities since 2003 on account of the precarious security situation at the time, facilitating the entry of thousands illegally with at the call of “Al Qaeda” but, he added, many have left for fear of being killed by the same Al Qaeda; noting that the Iraqi authorities do not posses acute estimates about the number of Algerians dwelling in Iraq.
- On the other hand, the ambassador has denied the existence of ethnic war in his country considering what the media label as bloodshed nothing but “huge media uproar designed to destabilize the new Iraq”. He linked the series of ethnic wars to “intelligence work monitored from abroad by foreign countries”.
- The ambassador has indicated that many Arab countries have asked for financial compensations instead of helping Iraq including Kuwait which is pressuring to get compensations and even apply sanctions against Iraq.
- Talking on the sidelines of his visit to Oran, western Algeria, the Iraqi ambassador has noted that the best proof of the improvement of the situation in this country is the suggestion made by the Arab league members to organize the upcoming summit in Bagdad next March 2011.
