Italy proceed in the expulsion and deportation of Algerian illegal immigrants
The Italian Interior Ministry, led by Roberto Maroni, started new measures to fight against illegal immigration which has swept Italy during the recent years, as Maroni plans to clean up the country from illegal immigrants, who are seen as a source of problems for the Italian security services, that’s why a meeting was held last week end at the headquarters of the Italian Branch of European Municipalities and Provinces in Rome, that included representatives of the embassies and consulates of countries that are concerned with illegal immigration, including Bangladesh, Macedonia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Morocco, Turkey, China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Serbia, Tunisia and Algeria.

During the meeting, representatives discussed the project of the Italian government which aims to assist the voluntary of returning to the mother country with a funding from the European Commission and Italian Interior Ministry.

The meeting also aims to prepare the main lines on the issue of voluntary return and work to promote and organize a network for all the public social and private organizations that work with immigrants, as well as embassies, a move which was welcomed by the representatives of embassies, who would be entrusted with the task of reporting on cases of immigrants who live in difficult circumstances, and to assist in issuing travel documents for those who opt for voluntary repartition, and ensure procedures and costs of travel to the country of origin, noting that dozens of Algerian illegal immigrants, were hit by a painful reality, particularly as this coincided with the global economic crisis that wiped out thousands of jobs, and some of them discussed the way to find a solution in order to return to Algeria, however, the way back is not easy, thus the new procedures of Berlusconi’s government may succeed un returning dozens of Algerian illegal immigrants to their families.

This occurs at a time 600 international unions, led by the Algerian independent trade union, prepare for the EUROMED to be held in Spain, to discuss and study the possibility to integrate immigrants in public employment and improve their physical and moral status.
