Jijel: 8 people held captive and filmed with digital cameras by terrorists
The residents of the locality of Sidi Abdellaziz in Jijel province, in eastern Algeria, are still in a total quandary about the fate of Mr.Hadj Amar who was abducted last Sunday somewhere in the region by a terrorist group.
Echorouk got in touch with the son of the kidnapped man but the latter was still all at sea about his father’s whereabouts saying his mobile phone-line had been ostensibly cut off by his captives.
Faced with this grim situation, scores of local people decided on Tuesday to carry out a sort of an “impromptu combing operation” late at night in the surrounding mountains but unfortunately the salvaging operation fizzled out as they were confronted by surprise by a large number of heavily-armed terrorists holed up in a nearby forest.
The terrorists managed to round up 8 of these residents, then, they filmed them with digital cameras before warning them sternly against informing the security forces about their whereabouts in the surrounding mountain.
The 8 hapless people were held for a long time before being finally released by the terrorists who didn’t waver to squeeze their captives out of several thousand dinars per person as a ransom for their liberation.
