Justice Minister Tayeb Belaiz: “Former AQIM leader Hassan Hattab under Controlled Residenceâ€
Former Leader of SGPC also called AQIM “Hassan Hattab†placed under “Protected Residenceâ€, Algeria Minister of Justice Tayeb Belaiz said here on Sunday.
Minister Belaiz explained, in a statement to the press on the sidelines of the meeting of Algerian People’s Council for approving the draft law about lifting the state of emergency in Algeria; “ Such protected places are Controlled by Justice” and only the investigating judge can visit them at any time for questioning the person under judicial control”.
“Information provided by Hassan Hattab enabled security services to avoid many terrorist attacks and crimes. This measure aims to protect Algeria from crime. Balance between freedom and public interest requires placing Hassan Hattab under judicial control”, he added.
As for the other former GSPC (AQIM) leader Abderrazak El Para currently in prison, the minister asserted that his case is always under judicial investigation.
