Khelil wants Algeria to end prosecutin against his wife and sons
Coordinator of Algerian Citizens’ Movement in France Omar Ait Mokhtar said Algeria’s former energy minister Chakib Khelil agreed to surrender to national authorities provided that they meet his conditions.
« Khelil told people close to him that he accepted to enter Algeria and surrended to justice. Yet, he started holding talks to stop prosecution against him and his sons as a precondition, » Ait Mokhtar told Echorouk.
Earlier, the Algiers Public Prosecuter issued an international arrest warrant for Khelil, his wife and sons for being involved in corruption-related cases.
Ait Mokhtar believes that the former minister will come soon to Algeria as his banking accounts had been frozen.
The Movement asked for appling the international law everywhere, saying that most of wanted people involved in the Sonatrach corruption scandal are living in Europe including France.
Ait Mokhtar launched a campaign in Paris calling on French authorities and ambassadors of the UAE and US to France to extradite the wanted people to the Algerian justice. It is believed that they are involved in corrpution cases related to Italy’s Saipem and Sonatrach.
Earlier, the Movement filled a lawsuit against Algerian officials for buying suspicious houses in luxious areas in Paris.
