Kuwait is keen to push forward cultural exchange with Algeria — minister
The State of Kuwait is keen to push forward cultural exchange with Algeria, Algerian Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi said Thursday.
- Voicing content over visiting Kuwait, Minister Toumi told KUNA prior to her departure earlier today that the Kuwaiti leadership is significantly supporting Arab culture. Toumi is heading to Kuwait to attend the conclusion of the Algerian Cultural Week, currently being held in Kuwait.
- The cultural event, which kicked off May 16, is within the cultural agreement signed by the two countries.
- Algerian culture is introduced during the week with the aim to familiarize the always knowledge-eager Kuwaiti people, the minister noted.
- Kuwait was present when Algiers celebrated being the Capital of Arab Culture in 2007, as a Kuwaiti Week was held by the National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters, and had an “astounding” impact on the Algerian audience, she said.
- Algeria is hosting a major cultural event in 2011; “Tlemcen, Capital of Islamic Culture,” and Kuwaiti officials are already invited to it, she concluded.
- On his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Algeria Saud Al-Duweesh told KUNA that the Algerian Cultural Week in Kuwait is a “window” for cultural exchange between the two countries and an opportunity to buttress cooperation.
- The Algerian Cultural Week is to conclude tomorrow (Friday), as it encompassed a book fair, an artifact and antiquities fair, a musical show, a play, seminars and display of Algerian films.
