Algerian universities are targeted by evangelisation.

The Algerian security services are tightening their control over several campuses following a large campaign of evangelization led by foreign students in various parts of the country.

According to security sources, the investigations started after a large campaign of evangelization reported by various Algerian media, targeting students from the traditional strongholds like Tizi -Ouzou, Bejaia, and Algiers to be extended to other regions in the eastern and southern parts of the country. The campaign initiated by foreign students in various universities consists in spreading the Christian faith using tapes and CDs.

The head of the religious affairs department in the town of Constantine was the first one to signal this campaign in the campuses, in previous declarations. The same phenomenon was witnessed in the southern city of Ouargla , where various Algerian students were seen in the churches pretending they were there in order to learn foreign languages.

Other means were used in a recent past in various universities to carry on this campaign, including the use of African Christian girls to attract male students to this religion.

In a declaration to “Echourouk” the spokesperson of the Independent Student General Union, declared that his body do not posses tangible proofs of an Evangelization campaign at the universities. He went on saying that “there are actually, discussions and seminars between foreign and Algerian students on the issue which cannot be branded as an Evangelization campaign”.
